milota is considered to be an exceptional phenomenon in Slovak and Czech photography. She experiments, breaks traditions, transforms and modernises her personal style. She exploits new technologies and possibilities, transcending photography into architecture, painting and fashion design. She has taught young people for over thirty years, and shaped the “Slovak new wave”, the generation of successful photographers who fundamentally influence the Czech photographic scene. Her creative approach significantly influenced the Slovak art scene, the younger generation in particular.

Nowadays, everybody tests his IQ, but we ignore EQ which is more essential for life. At the same time everything starts with emotion – I can try to persuade myself in vain what I should do and how I should decide about the future to make the right decision. After all, everything turns out differently because of emotions. It cannot be planned. Naturally, one should have a certain vision, but in order to develop it, he has to be emotionally mature. Otherwise he will suffer disappointments. This world develops towards the prevalence of rationality, which is a trap into which we can easily fall.
Naturally, people want to get out of it, but they do not know how and in what they are mistaken. What do you tell young people – how should they develop and preserve the ability to communicate emotionally?
They just have to seek their own identity and pursue it at all costs. One has to be aware of tradition – where he came from and where he belongs. People cannot simply operate in a vacuum. Every one of us has parents, no matter what they are like, but we belong somewhere. Moreover, we have always protected intimacy, privacy, something that has always been ours. Today, everything private suddenly becomes public. Nothing is identical, it is just mine. When everybody knows everything and is honest, it seems great – no taboos and false camouflage. On the other hand, you are deprived of something.
Why should we insist on secrets?
Secrets and illusions are wonderful. For instance, I am glad that I also lived in the era of socialism because our living was beautiful in that we were able to enjoy trifles, even an eye-liner from abroad. I cannot imagine that my little granddaughter who has everything will be able to enjoy trifles. Money will probably separate the world into two parts. It is not pleasant to imagine this polarisation: wealthy demigods and paupers.
Otherwise you would have to agree with Fidel Castro?
Perhaps it is better to focus on what one can really do. Everybody should learn to live and develop the world of his own. I cannot say anything else to young people around me, just to straighten their backs and view the world with different eyes. Therefore I love the art school because it is about life. The important thing is that the graduates from this school remain faithful to themselves and they maintain their professional standard. It is like to be “aristocrats”. Sometimes they did not have enough money for a pair of trousers, but they preserved decorum because they were fired with enthusiasm. When we lose enthusiasm, we are “finished”.
