milota is considered to be an exceptional phenomenon in Slovak and Czech photography. She experiments, breaks traditions, transforms and modernises her personal style. She exploits new technologies and possibilities, transcending photography into architecture, painting and fashion design. She has taught young people for over thirty years, and shaped the “Slovak new wave”, the generation of successful photographers who fundamentally influence the Czech photographic scene. Her creative approach significantly influenced the Slovak art scene, the younger generation in particular.

After all, you talk about artistic creation.
No, but they manage to cool me down quickly by an inconspicuous comment or feeling. Criticism is good and I appreciate if someone tells me openly what he/she thinks. Therefore I like straightforward students because they really tell you what they want to say.
Do you criticise students?
I am careful about it. Some young people are extremely sensitive, and too much criticism can divert them from their own self-expression entirely. My daughter tells me that sometimes I can be really horrible and say something that is painful, so I have to be careful. Students take their professors seriously and I would not like to influence them so that they will do the things in the way I do. For instance, I do not tell them at all what I do. Later on they are surprised.
We are sitting in a café with the reproductions of famous photographs in nice frames but people do not pay any attention to them. Can we affect our perception of the image to view something attentively?
Therefore it is important for the contemporary generation to come to terms with the objective world emotionally. It is the biggest problem for this generation. People have to come to terms with it without rejecting it. Some artists lament as to how to solve this problem. But my philosophy is not based on removing and rejecting that which surrounds us. We do not have to rebel, but have to take a detached view, and then we will be able to see everything with different eyes. It is about the view of life. We do not need so much to live. We should reach such standards that we have everything, yet nothing. The people who are able to live on the minimum turn out to be better off.
What does it mean to turn out to be better off?
They will have the greatest ability to improvise and create to achieve it. When the students from the West, where the wave of satisfaction has passed, come to our school, it is apparent that they perceive everything differently. They have no sense of improvisation which is absolutely necessary for life. It is as if they lacked something compared with us, and yet they have everything and can talk in a sophisticated way about everything. I really don’t think that everything in the West is excellent. We were in a state of euphoria when the borders opened; I sent my children abroad. When they returned a year later, my daughter told me: “My goodness, mum, all that mess is coming!” They quickly oriented themselves.
